STRAIN NAME: BKS.Cg-m +/+ Leprdb (Former Name: C57BLKS/J m +/+ Leprdb)

Since 1995, The Jackson Laboratory has fed BKS.Cg-m +/+ Leprdb distribution mice (i.e., not the breeding colony) a custom formulation diet with an 11% fat content. Mice weaned at 4 weeks of age were placed on this diet until they were shipped.
Extensive research conducted at The Jackson Laboratory as to the causes of hair loss in C57BL and related strains strongly suggests that the 11% fat diet contributes to the incidence of hair loss. Therefore, effective February, 2000, we changed the BKS.Cg-m +/+ Leprdb diet used for distribution mice to a standardized NIH-31 6% fat formulation which is the same diet used to maintain this strain?s breeding colony.
