Diet/feed sterilization

Most JAX® Mice production colonies are maintained on sterilized diets. Sterilization is accomplished either by autoclaving the diet at our facility, or by acquiring irradiated diet from the supplier. The autoclaved diets are supplemented with increased amounts of heat-labile vitamins to ensure sufficient quantities remain after autoclaving. No statistically significant differences in weight gain or breeding performance have been found between mice raised on diets subjected to either method of sterilization.
