How to Submit Data to the MGI Database
JAX® NOTES Issue 502, Summer 2006
The Mouse Genome Informatics (MGI) database is the authoritative source for mouse gene, allele, and strain nomenclature, and gene associations to the Gene Ontology and Mammalian Phenotype Ontology. It is an integrated resource of genetic, genomic, and biological data for the laboratory mouse. MGI accepts relevant mouse data from the scientific community, including data on mouse genes, mutations, polymorphisms, phenotypes, expression, and strains. MGI staff assigns accession identifiers (IDs) to submitted data and nomenclature to 1) make them consistent with those of MGI and 2) make them widely accessible through the MGI site and other major data providers (such as NCBI, Ensembl, and UCSC). To assure that appropriate accession IDs and nomenclature are assigned to your data, contact MGI before you publish. MGI also accepts and assigns accession IDs to data that augments your manuscript, whether published or unpublished. You can find instruction on how to submit your data at the Data Submissions link on the MGI Home Page. If you have any questions, send them to mgi-help@informatics.jax.org
