Following is a partial list of upcoming courses, workshops, and meetings sponsored by The Jackson Laboratory. For information on registration, lodging, and other details about these and other events, see the Courses and Conferences Web site.
15th Annual Short Course on Experimental Genetics Of The Laboratory Mouse In Cancer Research, Aug. 20-31, 2006
This is a graduate-level genetics course for predoctoral students, postdoctoral students, and established investigators interested in mouse genetics. It focuses on the mouse as an experimental tool in cancer research.
Topics include: genetics of the laboratory mouse, tools for genetic analysis, developmental genetics and cancer, genetic models in cancer research, genetics of inbred mouse strains, spontaneous and induced mutants, lab animal husbandry, genetic mapping, physical mapping, candidate gene identification, statistical genetics, complex trait analysis, gene expression analysis, strategies in induced mutagenesis, bio-informatics in genetics and genomics, development, growth control and malignancy, and mouse models for cancer research.
Discovery Strategies: The Laboratory Mouse in the Development of New Therapeutic Approaches to the Treatment of Neurological Disease, Sept. 18-19, 2006
The Bar Harbor Club,
West Street, Bar Harbor, ME
This conference will convene members of the academic and pharmaceutical communities with research interests in the biology and pathology of neurological disorders. Current approaches for using the mouse as a model for target discovery, validation, biomarkers, and drug efficacy will be examined.
11th Annual Short Course on Genetic Approaches To Complex Heart, Lung, And Blood Diseases, Oct. 19-28, 2006
Highseas Conference Center,
Schooner Head Road, Bar Harbor, ME
This highly acclaimed course covers the application of statistics, molecular biology and genetics to the analysis of complex diseases such as asthma, hypertension, and coronary heart disease. Both human and animal model data are presented and considered in-depth.
Workshop On Surgical Techniques In The Laboratory Mouse, Nov. 5-10, 2006
Applied Genomics Training Center,
600 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME
This five-day intensive hands-on workshop provides practical training in performing surgery on the laboratory mouse. Topics include basic handling, anesthesia, routes of administration, and procedures for the identification and tracking of individual mice. A wide range of standard and non-standard surgical techniques are also taught, and students are encouraged to submit requests for specific procedures.
Colony Management: Principles and Practices, Dec. 3-7, 2006
Highseas Conference Center,
Schooner Head Road, Bar Harbor, ME
This expanded four-day workshop provides training in the theory and practice of maintaining mouse colonies for production and research. It is designed for colony managers, animal care technicians, students, and Ph.D. scientists.
