New Infectious Disease Resource Manual Available
JAX® NOTES Issue 502, Summer 2006
Staff at The Jackson Laboratory recently compiled a new resource manual entitled "Infectious Disease Research and the Laboratory Mouse: a Jackson Laboratory Resource Manual." This new publication highlights the role of the laboratory mouse in infectious disease research, focusing on HIV (AIDS) and Category A bioterrorist agents anthrax, botulism, Ebola, plague, smallpox, and tularemia. It briefly describes these diseases, summarizes selected studies that have used the mouse to characterize the pathology and immune responses to and develop therapies and vaccines for these diseases, and describes selected JAX® Mice models that have been used in the past and that are promising for future research of these diseases. You can obtain a free copy of this and other Jackson Laboratory resource manuals by filling out the Literature Request Form.
