JAX® Mice Publications

JAX® NOTES Issue 506, Summer 2007

The 2007-2009 JAX® Mice Catalog and annual Price Lists are now available. The Catalog describes our collection of the world's top research mice and includes more than 400 new strains.

(Please Note: As of June 1, 2007, standing orders (orders scheduled to ship at regular intervals over a period of weeks or months) are being charged new prices. Contractual arrangements will follow contract terms.)

We recently published a "Most Popular JAX® Mice Strains Catalog." This Catalog includes photographs, strain characteristics, major research applications, body weight charts, prices, and a Strain Characteristics Comparison Chart that compares the H2 haplotypes, appearance and related genotypes, hearing loss, retinal degeneration, Hc (or C5) deficiency, noteworthy alleles, and common applications of 15 widely used JAX® Mice strains. It also contains a Diabetes Model Selection Guide.

Additionally, we recently published a completely revised edition of our "Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity Resources Manual." This manual summarizes our resources for diabetes and obesity research. Highlights include the following:

  • a list of factors to consider in choosing diabetes and obesity mouse models (this is particularly useful for researchers new to using mice to study diabetes and obesity);
  • a table comparing the diabetes and obesity phenotypes among humans and some of the more commonly used JAX® Mice models of these diseases;
  • descriptions of over 25 commonly used and emerging JAX® Mice models of diabetes and obesity;
  • a discussion of and characterization data for two of our new models: NONcNZO10/LtJ (004456), a model of obesity-related type 2 diabetes, and NON/ShiLtJ (002423), an emerging model of diet-induced obesity;
  • helpful tips for maintaining obese mice; and
  • introductions to our Efficacy Testing Services for Diabetes and Obesity and to our Diet-Induced Obesity Services.
