New JAX® Mice Database Functionalities
JAX® NOTES Issue 507, Fall 2007
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the usability of the JAX® Mice Database, we recently implemented the following functionalities:
Matching Text column in Search Results: If you search the JAX® Mice Database for "Apoe" the resulting search page lists all Apoe-relevant JAX® Mice strains on the left, and, in a new right hand "Matching Text" column, the reason those strains were found (Fig. 1). For example, the matching text for strain C57BL/6-Tg(LIPC)6784His/J (003285) is "promoter: APOE, apolipoprotein E." Notice that though "APOE" is not in the strain name, it is the promoter for the strain's transgene. The matching text for the strain B6;129S6-Lrp8tm1Her/J (003524) is "allele common name: ApoER2-" which indicates that Lrp8 is also called "apolipoprotein e receptor." This feature should make it easier for you to understand the results when you search a common gene, allele, or strain name instead of the "official" name.
JAX® Physiological Data Summary and JAX® Physiological Data Protocol: Near the very bottom of the strain data sheets for many popular JAX® Mice Strains are links to some of the most useful physiological data (and protocols used to collect that data) for these strains. Data include mean body weight curves, body composition, mean organ weights, serum biochemistry, and hematology and immunology profiles (see "New Physiological Data Summaries Available for Many Popular JAX® Mice Strains" in this issue of JAX® NOTES).
"Bracketless" superscript search feature: Superscripted alleles, mutations, and other elements no longer need brackets to be searched.
