JAX® Mice Delivers

JAX® NOTES Issue 509, Spring 2008

This has been a tough winter across the country, but nowhere more so than in the barren reaches of Rock Springs, Wyoming where a truck, carrying a valuable cargo of 7,000 JAX® Mice headed west got caught in bad weather and had to pull off the road. Not wanting to delay delivery of these important research mice, Jackson Laboratory personnel immediately swung into action, implementing a well-designed rescue plan. JAX Mice shipping container

The truck and its climate-controlled trailer were quickly diverted to the Rock Springs/Sweetwater County Airport where Lab personnel had already arranged for three dedicated, specially chartered, climate-controlled jets to meet the truck. The jets are owned by a carrier already trained in procedures for handling emergency and special shipments of JAX® Mice.

Once at the airport, trained drivers immediately loaded the mice aboard the planes, ensuring that climate-control was maintained and that the precious cargo spent no time outside or on the runway. Then, the three jets headed skyward, flying the JAX® Mice to the west coast, enroute to their final destinations in California, Washington and Canada.

The mice landed safely, and were whisked away to waiting research customers. Such action and contingency planning underscores The Jackson Laboratory's commitment - to deliver JAX® Mice safe and sound, no matter what.

JAX® Mice are transported in climate-controlled vehicles to most locations in the USA and Canada. West coast customers are served directly from our California facility whenever possible
