Cryopreservation and recovery: Critical components in disaster preparedness for mouse-based research
Hurricane Katrina. The California fires. The Midwest floods. The China earthquakes. Are your years of research and valuable research mice safe from such disasters? Have you considered cryopreserving your research stocks — in several locations?
NEW: Special J Offers - savings on selected JAX® Mice strains
The Jackson Laboratory routinely maintains some mouse strains in colonies large enough to facilitate the discovery of spontaneous mutations. This practice occasionally results in excess mice.
Jackson Laboratory employees support Red Cross relief effort for victims of China earthquakes
In the aftermath of devastating earthquakes that left millions of people in China without food or shelter, a group of Jackson Laboratory employees came together to help, donating nearly $10,000 to the Red Cross relief effort.
NEW: Volume pricing program for select JAX® Mice strains
Do you anticipate ordering large quantities of C57BL/6J (000664) or BALB/cJ (000651) mice in the near future? If so, we have some good news!
Two New JAX Regional Representatives
New to The Jackson Laboratory are Regional Representatives Rick Huntress, for the upper Northeastern U.S., and Rebekah Harden, for the Southeastern U.S.
caBIG™ at The Jackson Laboratory offers innovative tools to further cancer research
Designated as a Cancer Center since 1983 by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), The Jackson Laboratory actively participates in NCI’s cancer Biomedical Information Grid (caBIG™) initiative.
MGI Gene Expression Database (GXD) updated
Expression data from the Gene Expression Database (GXD) project is now seamlessly integrated into the Mouse Genome Informatics website.
Improved: Strain Data Sheets for JAX® Mice
Find the information you need about JAX® Mice quickly! Move from one type of information to another and back with ease! It’s all possible, thanks to an improved tab-formatted redesign of JAX® Mice Strain Data Sheets.
TALLYHO, a new polygenic model of type 2 diabetes
TALLYHO!! Most people associate this word with the cry used in the British Isles to excite and prompt fox hunting hounds to chase after their quarry. At JAX, however, TALLYHO has an entirely different meaning.
NOD scid gamma (NSG): official common name for the NOD.Cg-Prkdcscid Il2rgtm1Wjl/SzJ JAX® Mice strain
Many of our JAX® mice are not commonly referred to by their official strain names. Over time, they acquire common names, such as "NOD scid", "Black six" or "B6", "BALB", and "B6 Rag".
“Healer” JAX® Mice strain can regenerate cartilage
Someday, revolutionary treatments for human knee, shoulder, and hip injuries may be the result of research conducted with one of our JAX® Mice strains.
Ifng-deficient BALB/cJ mice play key role in lymphoma vaccine
With the help of JAX® Mice strain C.129S7(B6)-Ifngtm1Ts/J (002286), an interferon gamma (Ifng)-deficient mouse with a BALBc/J (000651) background, scientists recently moved one step closer to developing a vaccine against anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL).
New body weight Information for B6.V-Lepob/J and BKS.Cg-m +/+ Leprdb/J strains
New body weight information for JAX® Mice strains B6.V-Lepob/J (000632) and BKS.Cg-m +/+ Leprdb/J (000642)
Influence of Nnt alleles on DIO in C57BL/6 JAX® Mice
If you research diabetes and/or obesity you may be wondering if the null mutation of the NAD nucleotide transhydrogenase (Nnt) gene (Toye et al. 2005; Freeman et al. 2006) in JAX® Mice strain C57BL/6J (B6/J, 000664) affects its responsiveness to diet-induced obesity (DIO).

New: JAX® QTL Mapping Analysis Service Launches
JAX® Services is now offering QTL Mapping Analysis Services. Service options include one- and/or two-dimensional genome-wide scans to identify major QTLs and QTL interactions and fit multiple regression models for candidate QTLs and covariates, and the generation of scan plots, confidence intervals, effect plots, and a final report.
JAX® Histology Services Expands
JAX® Histology Services specializes in collecting, fixing, staining, sectioning, and embedding mouse tissues for biomedical researchers. It is an excellent option for researchers who don’t have the resources to perform these operations themselves.
New study directors at Jackson Laboratory—West
Two new study directors recently joined the JAX® In Vivo Services team at our California facility.
The Jackson Laboratory enters partnership to fight Friedreich’s Ataxia
Early in 2008, the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) engaged The Jackson Laboratory to discuss opportunities to have Friedrich’s Ataxia (FA) mouse models brought into JAX and made available to the research community.
