JAX® In Vivo Core Services Comprehensive and customizable efficacy testing platforms
JAX® NOTES Issue 513, Spring 2009
The new facility will include expanded research space for JAX® In Vivo Core Services. Using a broad collection of the best available test platforms, JAX® In Vivo Core Services has executed projects involving drug validation, efficacy testing and model characterization in many therapeutic areas, including cancer, obesity and type 2 diabetes, type 1 diabetes and complications, atherosclerosis, osteoporosis, neuromuscular disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, asthma and skin disorders. We are currently developing immunodeficient mouse strains for testing customer-provided human stem cells.
Our services are highly customizable. Whether protocols are conventional or transferred from the literature, they can be modified to match your requirements.

JAX® Mice in the new facility will be produced following the same stringent genetic quality control protocols used in Bar Harbor. |
Expanded Breeding Services Capacity
Our capacity for performing custom breeding services on the West Coast has also increased considerably to support your needs as well as to provide custom produced and maintained mice for in vivo services projects. JAX® In Vivo Services has direct access to the entire JAX® Mice collection — over 4,000 genetically well defined strains. To date, JAX® In Vivo Services has executed projects involving more than 100 unique strains for pharmaceutical, biotech, government and academic groups. Whether you need a Dedicated Supply of JAX® Mice, Diet-induced obese mice, aged mice, other preconditioned models, or custom crosses, your research will benefit from this expansion.
Unmatched breadth of expertise
Program Director, Leon Hall, Ph.D., at JAX since 2005, is experienced with many of the models and has supervised many of the projects mentioned above. He has additional experience researching non-viral gene therapy, cholinergic receptors and the molecular mechanisms of renal disease.
Guided by Ph.D.-level scientists with broad experience in mouse modeling of human disease, our dedicated and highly-trained technicians are experienced in a wide range of biomethods, including dosing by all commonly used routes, collecting blood, urine and feces from live mice, and performing comprehensive necropsies and tissue collection for histopathology, Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and gene expression. Many of our technicians have advanced surgical skills and all of them go through our extensive training program and yearly recertification. And, no one knows more about the husbandry and genetics of laboratory mice or has a greater wealth of experience with strains with special needs than our scientists and technicians.
