JAX® Surgical Services: Smooth Operators

JAX® NOTES Issue 514, Summer 2009

Need an experienced small animal surgeon to perform a delicate operation on a mouse? We can do it. Our highly skilled surgeons can perform a wide variety of standard and custom surgeries, from adrenalectomies to vasectomies, on virtually any mouse strain. They are particularly adept at placing vascular catheters, brain cannulas, and telemetry devices into mice.

All surgeries are performed using atraumatic and aseptic techniques in HEPA-filtered, positive pressure surgical suites within our barrier facilities. Because all production areas that send mice to our surgical suite participate in our health monitoring program, you can rest assured that the surgically altered mice you receive from us will be in top condition.

Twice a year we conduct an intensive, hands-on, five-day, onsite workshop called "Surgical Techniques in the Laboratory Mouse". The workshop offers practical training for many standard and special surgical techniques and allows our surgeons to keep current with the latest surgical applications. Our service is AAALAC-accredited, and all surgeries are approved by JAX's Animal Care and Use Committee. Learn more about upcoming training opportunities.
