Arthritis Models in the Mouse
JAX® NOTES Issue 432, October 1988
Arthritis Models
Arthritis in the mouse can be induced, spontaneous in some inbred strains, or related to single gene mutations. Induced murine arthritis models include treatment with type II collagen (DBA/1LacJ), pristane (BALB/c), thymocytes (C3H/He), Mycoplasma (CBA), and high fat diet (C57BL). Inbred strains that have been reported to develop spontaneously arthritis-like symptoms include MRL/1, C57BL, and NZB. Three mutations have been associated with arthritis, lpr (lymphoproliferation), ank (progressive ankylosis), and Moblo (mottled-blotchy). Selected articles for these arthritis models in the mouse are listed below. A Medline search through the National Library of Medicine computerized reference database will provide additional reference material.
