Mutation at the Glucosephosphate Isomerase Locus in NZB/BlNJ

Genetic Quality Control

Incidence

During genetic quality control screening of NZB/BlNJ mice from a holding room, we detected an electrophoretic variation at the glucosephosphate isomerase locus (Gpi-1). The normal allele in NZB/BlNJ mice is Gpi-1a. In one mouse we detected a heterozygous banding pattern ("a/d") at the Gpi-locus. All NZB/BlNJ breeders in our Foundation Stock and Pedigree Expansion colonies have been tested and were all found to contain the expected Gpi-1a allele. It appears that the mutation has occurred in some NZB/BlNJ mice and has been purged from our colony.
