This mouse strain (including any and all progeny, "MICE") is distributed by The Jackson Laboratory with the following terms and conditions.

The Spinal Muscular Atrophy Foundation ("SMA Foundation") and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. ("Regeneron") have collaborated to develop MICE as candidate models for research in SMA.  These strains are not yet fully characterized, but the Foundation has agreed to make them available for public distribution by The Jackson Laboratory ("JACKSON") to accelerate research and therapeutic development in SMA.

It is the intent of the SMA Foundation to encourage rapid characterization of the MICE as models of Spinal Muscular Atrophy and the SMA Foundation will facilitate opportunities for investigators to share data and observations about these strains. Recipients of the MICE will be invited to participate in a periodic network teleconference or other forums. Academic researchers may obtain MICE for research use.  Commercial researchers interested in using MICE are required to contact the SMA Foundation for approval prior to shipment and in some cases may be required to obtain a license from Regeneron.

As a service to the biomedical research community, JACKSON provides MICE to Recipient solely for research purposes.  Recipient agrees that the MICE will not be bred for sale nor distributed to any third parties outside the recipient's institution, and will be used solely for research purposes.  The original source of the MICE is the SMA Foundation.

THESE MICE ARE EXPERIMENTAL IN NATURE AND NEITHER JACKSON NOR REGENERON NOR THE SMA FOUNDATION MAKES ANY REPRESENTATION NOR EXTENDS ANY WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR ANY WARRANTY OF NON-INFRINGEMENT OF ANY PATENT, TRADEMARK, OR OTHER INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS.

In no event shall JACKSON or SMA Foundation be liable for any use of the MICE, and recipient hereby agrees to defend, indemnify and hold JACKSON and INSTITUTION harmless from any loss, claim, damage, or liability which may arise from Recipient's use, storage and disposal of the MICE.
