For Scientists (and Mice) on the Move
|
Are you and your research moving to another institution, in another state, or even another country? Relocation often can mean months of quarantine for your research mice and even longer to rebuild colonies. Rederiving your mice in a timely manner is key to getting your research program up and running again. Wondering how you're going to manage? We can help.

Our unique Speed Rederivation Service (combined with JAX® Sperm Cryo Service) is a cost-effective and simple solution to moving your mice. With just two fertile males, we can cryopreserve sperm from your mouse strains. Then, we recover and ship specified and opportunistic pathogen free (SOPF) mice to your new facility. We store unused cryopreserved sperm securely in three separate tanks in two locations. This provides a safe back up for your colony and allows mice to be conveniently shared with collaborators.

The typical turnaround time from importation to arrival of SOPF mice
is 12 to 14 weeks.
Do you have more than 50 strains to relocate? If so, our "Freeze Team" can cryopreserve strains at your current site and recover and send the mice to your new lab. Alternatively, you can use the new JAX® Sperm Cryo Kit to cryopreserve the sperm yourself. Send the cryopreserved sperm to us, and we recover and rederive the strains to SOPF status for you. If you need only a subset of your strains recovered after you relocate, no problem. We will recover the strains you need and keep the rest safely cryopreserved until you need them.
What about large colonies that you need to rebuild as quickly as possible? We can help you in two ways. First, we can move the rederived mice into our breeding facilities and build your colony to size before you set up your new lab. Then we can ship cohorts of mice or the entire colony to you. Second, our Speed Expansion Service can recover large cohorts of mice directly from your male mice or from cryopreserved sperm. All the mice generated will have the same birth week, be of SOPF health status, and be waiting for you when you arrive.
Do you need to keep important research projects going as you transition between locations? Our In Vivo Services experts can work with you to make sure your research doesn't miss a beat. They can help you evaluate drug efficacy in mouse models of human disease or phenotype new mouse models.
When you arrive at your new facility, don't forget to call our friendly customer service personnel and ask them to change your shipping and billing addresses and modify your mouse orders so everything is ready at your new laboratory.
Save resources, eliminate worries, ensure success. Take advantage of our 80 years of experience in mouse husbandry, genetics and colony management. If you are on the move, we can make it happen. Contact JAX® Services today.
