MGI Marker Detail Pages Now Feature Human Ortholog Data

The marker detail pages on the Mouse Genome Informatics (MGI) website summarize and provide links to all the information MGI has curated for a particular marker. In addition, some of these pages now feature a new "Human ortholog" section. These sections contain the official orthologous human marker name and symbol, synonyms, genome coordinates, and a link to information on human diseases associated with the marker in the Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) catalog of human genes and genetic disorders.

The human markers may be any of the genome feature types maintained in MGI, including protein coding genes, microRNAs, transgenes, pseudogenes, chromosomal insertions, deletions, and inversions. See the full list.

Of course, the MGI marker detail pages still contain all the standard information:

  • Official mouse nomenclature
  • Unofficial synonyms, genome coordinates, and all references associated with the marker in MGI
  • Brief summary of phenotypes produced by mutant alleles, links to allele summaries and details, and images and human disease models
  • Gene Ontology annotations, which describe the biological processes, cellular components, and molecular functions of the gene products
  • Gene expression data, which you can view by tissue, developmental stage, or assay type
  • Downloadable genomic, transcript, and polypeptide sequence
  • Links to external resources, such as Ensembl, NCBI, InterPro, and the International Mouse Knockout Project
