The following pricing and availability information is specific for the U.S.A., Canada and Mexico. For pricing & availability information specific to other areas, please view pricing information for international customers.

General Pricing Information

Prices for JAX® Mice Strains are searchable through the JAX® Mice Database on the applicable Strain Data Sheets. Prices for JAX® Mice strains are in U.S. dollars, F.O.B. origin, with freight prepaid and invoiced. Prices may change without notice.

Pricing for strains maintained in small breeding colonies

We maintain some strains in very small breeding colonies and do not maintain inventory of these strains until an order is received. We ship these mice when they become available, usually when they are between four to eight weeks old. Prices for these strains do not vary by age.

Please note: We will try to fulfill your requests for specific ages of mice from these strains, but fulfilling such requests may delay delivery of mice.

Pricing for Special Requests

In general, special requests may delay filling an order. Some time-sensitive special requests require overnight delivery and are not available to international customers.

  • Specific age in days: Price by age in weeks + $3.30 per mouse.
  • Mice 17 days of age or younger: List price + $3.30 per mouse + lactating female price.
    Please note: Mice 17 days of age or younger are shipped with lactating females and are not guaranteed to survive shipment.
  • Lactating female: $36.00 per mouse.
  • Littermates: List price + $8.75 per mouse (weaning age only).
    Please note: For most inbred strain backgrounds, littermates are not more genetically similar than are closely related mice from the same colony.

Pricing for retired breeders

Pricing for retired breeders is ninety percent (90%) of current list price. Shipments of retired breeders from small colonies may take several months. Partial shipments are recommended to reduce wait time.

Please note: Retired breeders are from active breeding colonies. We do not observe if the females are pregnant when they are shipped.

Pricing for pregnant females

Timed pregnant females are only available from the following inbred strains:

BALB/cByJ (001026), BALB/cJ (000651), C57BL/6J* (000664), C3H/HeJ (000659), DBA/2J (000671)

  • Identification by vaginal plug, zero to ten days (pregnancy not guaranteed) $85.00
  • Identification by palpation, 11 to 15 days (pregnancy guaranteed) $140.00

Females are mated in response to orders. Lead time varies depending on strain characteristics and availability. To reduce stress, we recommend shipping pregnant mice between the 11th and 15th day of gestation. Shipment methods and the expected date of pup delivery may limit some options.

Pricing for controls for JAX® GEMM® Strains 

In addition to producing affected mutant progeny, segregating strains may produce wild-type or noncarrier mice, which are available as controls under the following conditions:

  • Free of charge for up to the number of mutant mice ordered (no specific age or gender requirements).
  • $52.25 per mouse for mice in excess of the number of mutant mice ordered or for specific age or gender requirements.

The term "noncarrier" will now be used in place of the term "wild-type" for all mice in transgenic colonies that do not carry the transgene.
Please note: Age-matched and gender-matched controls are available upon request, but, if from small colonies, may delay shipment.

There are additional charges for control mice with specific genotypes.

Controls are NOT available for strains maintained by using a homozygote x homozygote breeding scheme. Suitable controls are indicated in the strain information section of the strain data sheet (search JAX® Mice Database).
