Aged Alzheimer's disease models
The Jackson Laboratory's Alzheimer's Disease Mouse Model Repository offers several models that develop Alzheimer's-related characteristics as they age. Aged mice are available from JAX® Services for the following strains:
| Strain Name | Stock Number |
| B6.Cg-Mapttm1(EGFP)Kit Tg(MAPT)8cPdav/J | 005491 |
| B6.Cg-Tg(APPswe,PSEN1dE9)85Dbo/J | 005864 |
If you are interested in obtaining aged mice, contact JAX® Services at:
- 800-422-MICE (6423)
- +1 207-288-5845
- JAX® Services Request Form
Orders for small numbers of aged mice will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis for as long as the mice are available. Pricing for these mice is determined by their age (contact JAX® Services for more information). License and use restrictions for some of these mice may apply. See the strain data sheet for details.

Important resources for Alzheimer's disease research
The Jackson Laboratory has appointed a special research administrator for Alzheimer's disease (AD) to enhance the distribution of mouse models from the Alzheimer's Disease Mouse Model Resource (ADMMR). Dr. Michael Sasner will serve as a resource for scientists seeking information about existing models, and also oversee the selection, importation, and distribution of new AD models.
Dr. Sasner will distribute AD mouse model information through this JAX® Mice web site and via JAX® Mice and Services News e-mails. To sign up to receive these e-mails, please fill out the on-line subscription form.
Information on ADMMR models can also be found at the web site of the Alzheimer Research Forum, an independant, non-profit organization that maintains the leading Web site on Alzheimer's disease research. The Alzforum Web site includes a transgenic mouse directory, in addition to current news and analysis about neurodegenerative disease research, an antibody directory, on-line discussions, and other services for Alzheimer's scientists.
Dr. Sasner, who has a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Connecticut, has been at The Jackson Laboratory since 1998. He also coordinates the ADMMR scientific advisory board. This board, composed of renowned scientists in Alzheimer's Disease and neurobiology research, helps set priorities for the importation of new strains to the ADMMR.
Scientists with questions or information about potential new strains for distribution can reach Dr. Sasner by email (mike.sasner@jax.org) or phone (207)-288-6817.
