Gene mapping service
Identify the region where your gene of interest lies
Do you have a mutant mouse with a novel phenotype?
A non-targeted transgenic insertion site that requires mapping?
Use The Jackson Laboratory's unparalleled genetic expertise to map the location of a spontaneous genetic mutation or a non-targeted transgenic insertion. Using tail samples from a genetic cross between your mice and an appropriate strain, we will select specific SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) markers from our panel of over 2,000 SNP markers to identify your gene's region of interest.
Service description
Our service is appropriate for mice with single-gene mutations, and involves SNP analysis using tail samples from F2 or N2 progeny of your subject mouse. We are happy to assist you in the selection of the most appropriate strains to cross with yours in order to create offspring for use in our gene mapping service. We can also perform these crosses for you in either our Bar Harbor, ME or West Sacramento, CA facilities as part of our Breeding Services.
Once crosses have been completed, and tail samples are collected, our service typically takes about 6 weeks. We usually perform 2 SNP analysis runs, the first involving a genome-wide scan to identify which chromosome your gene lies on, and the second with more densely spaced markers and/or more samples, to refine the linkage region on that chromosome.
