Echo Magnetic Resonance Imaging (EchoMRI) from Echo Medical System, Houston, TX, is used to precisely measure whole body composition parameters such as total body fat, lean mass, body fluids, and total body water in live mice without the need for anesthesia or sedation. With its high sensitivity, EchoMRI is ideal for assessing small alterations in mouse whole body composition as a result of genetic mutation or exposure to novel compounds.
Standard protocol
Echo Magnetic Resonance Imaging (EchoMRI) from Echo Medical System, Houston, TX, is used to precisely measure whole body composition parameters such as total body fat, lean mass, body fluids, and total body water in live mice without the need for anesthesia or sedation. With its high sensitivity, EchoMRI is ideal for assessing small alterations in mouse whole body composition as a result of genetic mutation or exposure to novel compounds.
In our In Vivo Laboratory, EchoMRI-100™ QNMR system is housed in a clean animal room area to minimize the entry of disease or contaminants to the area. Prior to each QNMR run, the system is calibrated using a known standard provided by Echo Medical System. Mouse body weights are recorded and each mouse is placed into an appropriate size tube and placed in the QNMR machine. The mouse is subjected to a predetermined sequence of radio frequency energy and EchoMRI software records spectra on each mouse during a 47 second run. Three sequential independent scans are conducted for each mouse and the data is automatically transferred to our database. The output information is expressed as lean tissue mass, fat mass, and free body fluids in grams.
We've performed 17,500 QNMR runs over the last 2.5 years.
