Respiratory function is measured in conscious unrestrained mice using whole body plethysmographs from BUXCO Electronics (Wilmington, NC).
Effects of compounds or genetic alterations on breathing rate, tidal volume, and other respiratory indices can be determined using this system.
High throughput characterization of potential asthma phenotypes can be performed using allergen sensitization and methacholine challenge on mice susceptible to airway hyper-responsiveness.
