Ozgene Pty Ltd is an Australian company that provides contract research services for global markets. Ozgene custom designs and generates genetically modified (GM) mice and rats, including knockout, knockin, humanized, transgenic and lentiviral transgenic animal models.
Services
Gene targeting service
Ozgene generates custom designed knockout, knockin and humanized mouse models for your research. Ozgene offers a full gene targeting service starting from vector design and construction and finishing with the generation of a targeted mouse line. Alternatively the customer can provide the targeting vector to be used for the generation of the mice. Gene targeted mice can be generated using 129Sv/J, C57BL/6 or BALB/c ES cells. Germline transmission has been achieved for all gene targeting projects (including double targetings) in the past 20 years.
Transgenic service
Ozgene predominantly uses lentiviral transgenesis to generate transgenic mice and rats. Lentiviral transgene delivery is a reliable tool to generate transgenics with up to 100% efficiency, resulting in a large number of founders, some with multiple integrations. Lentiviral transgenesis also overcomes the strain limitations of other technologies. Lentiviral vectors can be combined with RNAi technology in gene knockdown projects in both mice and rats.
Recognized expertise
Ozgene prides itself as a company managed by “Scientists for Scientists”. The company was founded by two scientists, Dr Frank Koentgen (CEO) and Dr Gabi Suess (CSO), in November 1999. Dr Koentgen has 20 years international experience in the management and production of GM mice and rats. Drs Koentgen and Suess were the first to produce and publish C57BL/6 knockout mice in 1993 (Kontgen et al. Targeted disruption of the MHC class II Aa gene in C57BL/6 mice. Int Immunol. 1993 Aug;5(8):957-64). Their work has also been published in scientific journals such as Cell, Nature, Science, Immunity, PNAS and Nature Medicine. Intellectual property
Ozgene offers strictly fee for service. The customers retain their intellectual property.
Online project access
Ozgene has developed a purpose built management database, OzMouse, that operates as a fully electronic lab book, storing all project data and results. OzMouse tracks each and every project from initial order all the way through to genotyping and shipment. Project data and results are regularly uploaded from OzMouse to a project specific secure online website, where they are accessible to the customer at all times.
Global customer base
Ozgene's global customer base includes individual academics, research institutes, biotechnology companies and multinational pharmaceutical companies from North & South America, Europe, Japan, China, Australia, and New Zealand. In several cases Ozgene is either the preferred supplier or the sole supplier of knockout and/or transgenic mouse models.
