Type Mutant Stock; Spontaneous Mutation; Additional information on Genetically Engineered and Mutant Mice. Visit our online Nomenclature tutorial. Species laboratory mouse Generation N34 Development
The semi-dominant mutation waved coat (Wc) arose spontaneously in 1969 among the descendants of a linkage cross with depilated (dep). The first waved coat male was mated to a C57BL/6J female and the F1 pair was mated. From here on to N6 a Wc/+ male was mated to a C57BL/6J female at each generation. At N6 a Wc/+ male was mated to a C3FeLe.B6-a/a female. The F1 offspring were mated and the F2 Wc/+ male was mated to a B6C3Fe-a/a F1 hybrid. The stock was then maintained by continuous matings of a waved coated male to a B6C3Fe-a/a F1 female. Embryos were generated for cryopreservation in 1979 by mating a Wc/+ male to a +/+ female.

Wc/Wc
Background Not Specified
- lethality-prenatal/perinatal
- embryonic lethality (MGI Ref ID J:13664)
- all homozygotes die before birth
- embryogenesis phenotype
- abnormal ectoderm development (MGI Ref ID J:13664)
- subsequent to embryoblast differentiation into embryonic and extra-embryonic ectoderm, the embryonic ectoderm becomes pycnotic and degenerates, although the yolk sac, chorion, and allantois are normal
