Related Genotype: a/aDescription
This congenic strain carries H2f derived from the non-inbred stock M (see development field). This strain also carries the Pgk2b allele and the Tlad allele. (Snell GD, 1958; Snell GD, 1978; Eicher et al., 1978; Flaherty et al., 1977).Development
This strain was one of George Snell's congenic resistant lines used in defining H2 alleles. The original donor strain was a non-inbred line called M which was homozygous for a and Ca and wild type for Tyrp. M was bred to C57BL/6JSn then the F1 offspring were sibling mated and the F2 mice were selected for rejection of a C57BL/6J tumor and a surviving F2 mouse was then backcrossed to C57BL/6JSn. This backcross-intercross selection protocol was continued and Snell recorded the generation number for each generation in this scheme as G#. In the 1978 text "Origins of Inbred Mice", Snell gives the generation for strain B10.M/Sn as G12F13J3F47 and the N equivalent generation as NE8F47. He adds that "Strain B10.M was originally B6.M. Subsequently two matings were made to C57BL/10, so three fourths of the background genes should be from this strain." The Jackson Laboratory has since maintained this strain by sibling breeding. Although this strain is not a full congenic on the C57BL/10 background, the name assigned by Snell, B10.M/Sn, is being maintained for historical reasons. (Snell GD, 1958; Snell GD, 1978).
