Related Genotype: A/ADescription
This DW/J congenic strain is wildtype for both the leaden (+Mlph-ln) and dwarf ( +Pit1-dw) mutations and thus serves as a control strain for DW/J-Pit1dw/+ Mlphln/Mlphln, Stock No. 000643.Development
This control strain for DW/J was made to provide compatible hosts for ovarian transplantation. In 1966 the DW/J strain was sent to The Jackson Laboratory Animal Resources Mutant Stocks department. At this time the stock was maintained by tested sibling matings. In order to use ovarian transplants a compatible host and color coded strain was started by crossing a DW/J mouse to a C3H/HeJ .The offspring of this cross, a non leaden and non dwarf mouse, was crossed back to strain DW/J each generation to N10. At generation N11 the pairs were tested by breeding to be non-carriers of leaden and dwarf making this control line Mlph+ and Pit1+. It was cryopreserved in 1992 my mating the homozygous wild type males and females at N11 F20.
