Type JAX® GEMM® Strain - Coisogenic Additional information on JAX® GEMM® Strains. Type JAX® GEMM® Strain - Mutant Strain Type JAX® GEMM® Strain - Spontaneous Mutation Species laboratory mouse Generation F26 Strain Development
Acromelanic (Tyrc-a), an allele at the albino locus, arose spontaneously in C3H/HeJ at the Jackson Laboratory in 1985 when that inbred was at generaton F183. It was sibling mated by forced heterozygosis (heterozygote x homozygote). It reached at F26 in 1991. In 1990 embryos were generated for cryopreservation by mating homozygous males to heterozygous females or vice versa at generation F25 or more.

| General Note | Tyrc-a, acromelanic. The acromelanic mutation arose in the C3H/HeJ strain at The Jackson Laboratory. Homozygotes are distinguishable from albino at birth by pigmented eyes. Both young and adult Tyrc-a homozygotes have an off-white coat color, pigmented eyes, ears, tail, and anal region. Unlike Tyrc-h homozygotes, no dark hairs appear on the nose. With respect to coat color, acromelanic is between chinchilla and extreme dilution in the albino series of phenotypes.Tyrc-a is fully recessive to wild type and completely dominant to Tyrc. Tyrc/Tyr/c-a heterozygotes have a slightly off-white coat color, dark eyes, and slightly sooty ears and tail. Tyrc-a/Tyrc-ch heterozygotes have a coat color intermediate between chinchilla and acromelanic homozygotes, with a very darkly pigmented anal region. Tyrc-a/Tyrc-e heterozygotes have a lighter coat but darker ears and tail than extreme dilution homozygotes and are indistinguishable from acromelanic homozygotes. In combination with Tyrc-h, the coat is lighter and again indistinguishable from acromelanic homozygotes, but the eyes are pigmented in addition to the dark ears and tail (J:14994). | ||

Cryorecovery - Standard. The recovery process begins when a signed agreement form is returned to the Customer Service Department after order placement. Although results vary by strain, at least two males and two females (two pairs) will be provided, typically within 15 weeks of our receipt of the signed agreement form. If the first recovery attempt is unsuccessful or only one pair is recovered, a second recovery will be done, extending the delivery time to approximately 25 weeks. At least one member of each pair will be of known genotype and will carry the mutation if it is a mutant strain. Please note that pairs may not reflect the mating scheme utilized by The Jackson Laboratory prior to cryopreservation of the strain. Mating schemes are sometimes modified for successful cryopreservation. Price represents a repository maintenance fee, which includes the cost of recovery of the strain from the cryopreservation resource and the periodic replacement of the frozen embryos used for recovery.
