Former Names C57BL/6-TgN(CETP)#Pnu (Changed: 15-DEC-04 ) Type Transgenic; Additional information on Genetically Engineered and Mutant Mice. Visit our online Nomenclature tutorial. Species laboratory mouse Donating Investigator Beverly Paigen, The Jackson Laboratory Description
This transgenic strain overexpresses the simian plasma cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP). Homozygous transgenic are viable and fertile. Mice exhibit a negative correlation between plasma CETP activity and total plasma cholesterol, plasma apolipoprotein (apo) A-I levels, and plasma apo A-I to apo B ratio. The size of the apo A-I-containing lipoproteins is significantly reduced in mice with high plasma CETP activity. Transgenic mice on a high-fat, high-cholesterol diet have substantially higher plasma cholesterol and plasma apo B levels and the apo B-containing lipoproteins are generally larger than those in nontransgenic C57BL/6 mice on the same diet.

| Molecular Note | Transgenic mice overexpress the simian plasma cholesteryl ester transfer protein. Four lines were characterized with mice exhibiting a negative correlation between plasma CETP activity and total plasma cholesterol, plasma apolipoprotein A-I levels (APOA1), and plasma APOAI to APOB ratio. This line, UCTP-20, was the highest expressor of the transgene and was selected for further study. Significant transgene expression was detected by Northern blotting in the liver, brain and heart.
