Type Mutant Strain; Transgenic; Additional information on Genetically Engineered and Mutant Mice. Visit our online Nomenclature tutorial. Species laboratory mouse Donating Investigator Elizabeth Simpson, University of British Columbia Description
C57BL/6J-TgN(pPWL88puro)2Ems mice are transgenic for the puromycin resistance gene, puromycin N-acetyltransferase (pac). This strain is a tool for the production of puromycin resistant mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEF's) for embryonic stem cell selection. Embryonic fibroblasts derived from these mice are resistant to 2 ug/ml puromycin. Homozygosity for the transgene is embryonic lethal, so the strain is maintained by hemizygous matings. MEF's from individual embryos should be drug tested before use.
