Former Names C57BL/6JSmn-Dstncorn1-2J (Changed: 15-DEC-04 ) Type Mutant Strain; Additional information on Genetically Engineered Mutant Mice. Mating System Homozygote x Homozygote (Female x Male) Species laboratory mouse Description
Histological assessment of corneas from mice homozygous for the Dstn corn1-2J mutation reveals focal epithelial thickening and enlarged surface epithelial cells with degenerating nuclei. These mice lack the neovascularization found in mice homozygous for the Dstn corn1 mutation and have a more mild corneal epithelial phenotype. Preliminary assessment indicates that this variation in phenotype results from the distinct mutations in Dstn, not from differences in genetic background. In both mutants the corneal epithelial cells show increased levels and altered organizational patterns of filamentous actin. In the Dstncorn1 mutants this alteration to filamentous actin has been shown to result in accelerated proliferation of basal corneal epithelial cells. (Smith et al., 1996; Wang et al., 2001; Ikeda et al., 2003.)Development
The corn1-2J allele of Dstn was identified in the C57BL/6JSmn inbred strain at The Jackson Laboratory in approximately 1991.

| Molecular Note | The corn1-2J mouse was identified as an allele of corn1 by complementation analysis. The mutation was identifed as a C to T transition at nucleotide position 316 in exon 3. This mutation results in a Pro106Ser amino acid change that is predicted to affect the binding of the protein to F- and G- actin. [MGI Ref ID J:83125] | ||

| Standard Supply | Repository-Live. A collection of over 1000 strains maintained as live colonies. Individual colonies are sized to meet current customer demand. Delivery for orders of 10 mice or less ranges on average from one to eight weeks; mice are generally shipped between four to six weeks of age with a maximum shipping age of ~nine weeks. Colony sizes do not generally support stringent age specifications for large volumes of mice; however custom orders and larger quantities of mice are easily arranged. Estimated ship dates for all orders provided within 48 hours of order placement. |
