Description
Transgenic mice are viable and express human SOD1. Transgenic mice express three times the normal level of SOD1 in the blood, brain, and fibroblasts. Homozygote males for the Tg(SOD1)10Cje transgene are sterile; homozygote females for the Tg(SOD1)10Cje transgene are fertile. Described in the literature as 218/10 denoting that the transgene insertion site maps to Chr 10.

Development
These strains were developed in the lab of Dr. Charles J. Epstein at the University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine. The transgene is present in multiple copies.

Transgenic mice on a C57BL/6 background are viable. Although homozygote males are sterile, homozygote females are fertile.

Transgenic mice express three times the normal level of SOD1 in the blood, brain, and fibroblasts.
Molecular Note The entire human SOD1 sequence was used for the transgene. Eight copies of the transgene inserted into Chromosome 10 (J:18645). Northern blot analysis of brain and liver from transgenic animals showed expression of 0.9 kb and 0.7 kb transcripts similar to that in humans. Transgenic animals exhibited increased enzyme activity in nearly all tissues examined. [MGI Ref ID J:30458]

IMPORTANT NOTE: The genotypes of the animals provided may not reflect the mating scheme utilized by The Jackson Laboratory prior to cryopreservation, or that discussed in the strain description. Please inquire for possible genotypes for this specific strain. Animals typically ship within 13 to 16 weeks from your order. If a second cryorecovery is needed in order to provide the minimum number of animals, animals will typically ship within 25 weeks.

“Each recipient institution, including its employees and other researchers under its control (RECIPIENT), of mice or services using mice from The Jackson Laboratory (TJL) agrees that such mice, descendants of those mice derived by inbreeding or crossbreeding, including unmodified derivatives of those mice or their descendants (“MICE”) shall not be: (i) used for any purpose other than the internal research of the RECIPIENT, (ii) sold or otherwise provided to any third party for any use, or (iii) provided to any agent or other third party to provide breeding or other services with respect to MICE. Acceptance of MICE from TJL shall be deemed agreement by RECIPIENT to these conditions, and departure from these conditions requires The Jackson Laboratory’s prior written authorization.”

No Warranty

MICE, PRODUCTS AND SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS”.
