Related Genotype: a/aStrain Description
This transgenic mouse line with an "enhanced" GFP (EGFP) cDNA under the control of a chicken beta-actin promoter and cytomegalovirus enhancer makes all of the tissues, with the exception of erythrocytes and hair, appear green under excitation light. Note that mice homozygous for this transgene die within the first two weeks following birth.Strain Development
The EcoRI sites included in the PCR primers were used to introduce the amplified EGFP cDNA into a pCAGGS expression vector containing the chicken beta-actin promoter and cytomegalovirus enhancer, beta-actin intron and bovine globin poly-adenylation signal. The entire insert with the promoter and coding sequence was excised with Bam-HI and SalI and gel-purified. This strain was generated in C57BL/6 mice.

| Expressed Gene | GFP, Green Fluorescent Protein, jellyfish | ||
| Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP), derived from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria, is a versatile reporter molecule which has found use in many biological applications. The original molecule has been modified in order to enhance its fluorescence intensity (EGFP, enhanced GFP). When utilized in a transgenic construct, tissue expressing sufficient amounts of GFP will fluoresce when exposed to a 488 nm light source. | |||
| Promoter | ACTB, actin, beta, chicken | ||
| Molecular Note | cDNA encoding enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) was adjoined to the chicken beta actin promoter and cytomegalovirus enhancer. A bovine globin polyadenylation signal was also included in the construct. [MGI Ref ID J:87415] | ||
