Generation DefinitionsGeographic Origin Lhotka, Czech Republic Appearance
agouti
Related Genotype: A/ADescription
PWK was derived from wild mice trapped near Prague, Czech Republic. PWK has a biochemical profile that is similar to the inbred strain PWD (also originating from the Czech Republic - Stock No. 004660) with the exception of the isoenzyme variant esterase 13 (Es13b). Wild-derived mice are genetically distinct from common laboratory mice for a number of complex phenotypic characteristics and are valuable tools for genetic mapping, evolution and systematics research.Development
PWK/Ph is descended by sib mating from a single pair of mice of the subspecies Mus musculus musculus caught in 1974 in Lhotka, Czech Republic (Von Deimling et al. 1988). Founders were selected for their ability to produce sterile sons when mated to C57BL/10 mice. The strain was imported to The Jackson Laboratory in May 2000 from Dr Jiri Forejt, Institute of Molecular Genetics, Prague.
