Type JAX® GEMM® Strain - Congenic Additional information on JAX® GEMM® Strains. Type JAX® GEMM® Strain - Mutant Strain Type JAX® GEMM® Strain - Transgenic Mating System Inbred x Hemizygote (Female x Male) Species laboratory mouse Donating Investigator Richard Flavell, Yale University School of Medicine Generation N7+12 (04-DEC-07) Strain Description
These transgenic mice express Cre recombinase under the direction of the receptor tyrosine kinase Tek promoter/enhancer, which has been shown to provide uniform expression in endothelial cells during embryogenesis and adulthood. Mice that are hemizygous for the transgenic insert are viable, fertile, normal in size and do not display any gross physical or behavioral abnormalities. Recombinase activity results in the deletion of loxP flanked targets in the female germline as well as in endothelial cells and hematopoietic cells. A low frequency of deletion events are also observed by inheritance from the male germline.Strain Development
A transgenic construct containing the mouse Tek promoter/enhancer directing expression of a Cre recombinase gene was injected into the fertilized eggs of C3B6F2 mice. Founder animals were obtained and crossed with C57BL/6J mice for at least 7 generations (as of 2001).

| Site of Expression | female germline as well as tyrosine endothelial and hematopoietic cells; a low frequency of deletion events are also observed by inheritance from the male germline | ||
| Expressed Gene | cre, cre recombinase, bacteriophage P1 | ||
| Cre recombinase is an enzyme derived from the bacteriophage P1 that specifically recognizes loxP sites. Cre has been shown to effectively mediate the excision of DNA located between loxP sites. After the excision event, the DNA ends recombine leaving a single loxP site in place of the intervening sequence. | |||
| Promoter | Tek, endothelial-specific receptor tyrosine kinase, mouse, laboratory | ||
| Molecular Note | Cre recombinase expression is driven by a mouse endothelial-specific receptor tyrosine kinase promoter/enhancer. Recombinase activity is detected in endothelial cells during embryogenesis and adulthood. Expression was also detected in hematopoietic cells. [MGI Ref ID J:68147] | ||

| Standard Supply | Repository-Live. A collection of over 1000 strains maintained as live colonies. Individual colonies are sized to meet current customer demand. Delivery for orders of 10 mice or less ranges on average from one to eight weeks; mice are generally shipped between four to six weeks of age with a maximum shipping age of ~nine weeks. Colony sizes do not generally support stringent age specifications for large volumes of mice; however custom orders and larger quantities of mice are easily arranged. Estimated ship dates for all orders provided within 48 hours of order placement. |
