Type JAX® GEMM® Strain - Congenic Additional information on JAX® GEMM® Strains. Type JAX® GEMM® Strain - Mutant Strain Type JAX® GEMM® Strain - Transgenic Mating System Inbred x Hemizygote (Female x Male) Species laboratory mouse Donating Investigator IMR Colony, The Jackson Laboratory Generation N10 (01-FEB-07) Strain Description
This strain expresses Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) under the direction of the endothelial-specific receptor tyrosine kinase (Tek, formerly, Tie2) promoter. Endothelial cells expressing GFP can be visualized via fluorescent microscopy or purified by FACS.In an attempt to offer alleles on well-characterized or multiple genetic backgrounds, alleles are frequently moved to a genetic background different from that on which an allele was first characterized. It should be noted that the phenotype could vary from that originally described. We will modify the strain description if necessary as published results become available.
Strain Development
This strain originated on an FVB/N background, and was backcrossed to C57BL/6J for 5 generations using a speed congenic protocol. The C57BL/6J component of this speed congenic background is estimated at >95% via genome scanning.

| Site of Expression | Blood vessel endothelial cells fluoresce green allowing the visualization of all vessels under fluorescent microscopy or purification of endothelial cells by FACS. | ||
| Expressed Gene | GFP, Green Fluorescent Protein, jellyfish | ||
| Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP), derived from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria, is a versatile reporter molecule which has found use in many biological applications. The original molecule has been modified in order to enhance its fluorescence intensity (EGFP, enhanced GFP). When utilized in a transgenic construct, tissue expressing sufficient amounts of GFP will fluoresce when exposed to a 488 nm light source. | |||
| Promoter | Tek, endothelial-specific receptor tyrosine kinase, mouse, laboratory | ||
| General Note | Endothelial cells in transgenic mice express GFP, and can be visualized via fluorescent microscopy or purified by FACS. | ||
| Molecular Note | The transgene contains Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) under the control of the endothelial specific receptor tyrosine kinase (Tek, previous symbol Tie2) promoter. [J:93360] | ||

Tg(TIE2GFP)287Sato
| Breeding & Husbandry | Transgenic animals on the C57BL/6J background experience a 60% mortality rate in hemizygotes with the majority of death occurring at birth. Comparatively, this same transgenic line is available from The Jackson Laboratory on a STOCK background (stock number 003658), which is not subject to problems with mortality when maintained as a homozygote. Expected coat color: black |

| Standard Supply | Repository-Live. A collection of over 1000 strains maintained as live colonies. Individual colonies are sized to meet current customer demand. Delivery for orders of 10 mice or less ranges on average from one to eight weeks; mice are generally shipped between four to six weeks of age with a maximum shipping age of ~nine weeks. Colony sizes do not generally support stringent age specifications for large volumes of mice; however custom orders and larger quantities of mice are easily arranged. Estimated ship dates for all orders provided within 48 hours of order placement. |
