Species laboratory mouse Background Strain ALR/Lt Donor Strain NOD/LtDvs H2 Haplotype gx Generation N9 Appearance
albino
Related Genotype: a/a Tyrc/TyrcDescription
ALR mice are resistant to chemically induced and autoimmune type 1 diabetes and encode the mitochondrial mt-Nd2a allele which is associated with resistance to type 1 diabetes. NOD mice are susceptible to type 1 diabetes and encode the mt-Nd2c allele. Although basal mitchondrial respiration is unchanged, mitochondria from this conplastic produce more reactive oxygen species than either parent or the reciprocal conplastic.Development
Dr. Clayton Mathews developed the ALR/Lt-mtNOD/LtDvs/MxLt conplastic strain by crossing ALR/Lt males to the donor NOD/LtDvs females. F1 progeny from the cross carry NOD/LtDvs mitochondrial DNA. Female progeny were then sequentially backcrossed for 10 generations to ALR/Lt males . A conplastic strain carries the mitochondrial genome of the donor strain.
