Type Coisogenic; Mutant Strain; Spontaneous Mutation; Additional information on Genetically Engineered Mutant Mice. Species Outbred and M. m. domesticus Generation F?+64+27 (07-DEC-07) Important Note
This genetic background is homozygous for Robertsonian translocations Rb(1.3)1Bnr, Rb(8.12)5Bnr, and Rb(9.14)6Bnr.Description
The phenotype of this mutation can be identified at about 10 days of age by a ruffled looking coat, which is different than the smooth coat of control littermates. The hair of mutant mice is sparse and has some curling. The ruffled looking coat is maintained throughout the animal's lifespan, unlike the caracul and caracul-like mutants who lose some of their curly coat with age. Mice homozygous for the ruffled mutation have a normal lifespan and both sexes breed normally.Development
Rb(1.3)1Bnr, Rb(4.6)2Bnr, Rb(5.15)3Bnr, Rb(11.13)4Bnr, Rb(8.12)5Bnr, Rb(9.14)6Bnr, and Rb(16.17)7Bnr were identified in the progeny of tobacco mice trapped in Val Poschiavo, Switzerland. A female from the random bred Swiss NMRI/Han stock was bred to a male descended from the mice trapped in Val Poschiavo and their F1 offspring were sent from Dr. Alfred Gropp at Medizinische Hochschule, Lubeck, to Dr. Thomas Roderick at The Jackson Laboratory where they were intercrossed and the F2 offpsring were separated into distinct breeding lines maintained by sibling mating. This generated a panel of recombinant inbred strains, some of which were developed by Dr. Eva Eicher, including RB126Bnr/EiJ (stock #002040). This strain is homozygous for Rb(1.3)1Bnr, Rb(4.6)2Bnr, and Rb(9.14)6Bnr. The rul mutation arose spontaneously in the RB126Bnr/EiJ strain at The Jackson Laboratory in 1989 and since then has been maintained segregating for rul by sibling mating primarily heterozygotes with homozygotes.

| Standard Supply | Repository-Live. A collection of over 1000 strains maintained as live colonies. Individual colonies are sized to meet current customer demand. Delivery for orders of 10 mice or less ranges on average from one to eight weeks; mice are generally shipped between four to six weeks of age with a maximum shipping age of ~nine weeks. Colony sizes do not generally support stringent age specifications for large volumes of mice; however custom orders and larger quantities of mice are easily arranged. Estimated ship dates for all orders provided within 48 hours of order placement. |
