Type Coisogenic; Mutant Strain; Spontaneous Mutation; Additional information on Genetically Engineered Mutant Mice. Mating System Homozygote x Heterozygote (Female x Male) Mating System Heterozygote x Homozygote (Female x Male) Species laboratory mouse Generation F121+29 (06-DEC-07) Appearance
albino, unaffected
Related Genotype: a/a Tyrpb/Tyrp1b Tyrc/Tyrc stmp/+
albino, transitory curly hair
Related Genotype: a/a Tyrpb/Tyrp1b Tyrc/Tyrc stmp/stmpDescription
The phenotype of this mutation can be identified by a curly coat, which is different from the smooth coat of control littermates. At 3 weeks of age, mice homozygous for this new mutation have very curly coats and slightly curved vibrissae. In several weeks time the curly coat disappears but the hair retains a rough texture, and the vibrissae then appear normal. Heterozygous mice have normal smooth coats and straight whiskers.Development
The short term perm mutation arose spontaneously on the RHJ/LeJ background at The Jackson Laboratory in 1998 when that strain was at F121. This mutant substrain was subsequently maintained by sibling mating primarily heterozygotes with homozygotes and vice versa. The recessive rhino mutation has never been seen in this substrain although it had to have been present heterozygously in the founders. In 2005 this strain reached F121+F23.

- waved hair (MGI Ref ID J:100186)
- at three weeks of age, mice have very curly coats
- with age, the curly coat disappears
- touch/vibrissae phenotype
- curly vibrissae (MGI Ref ID J:100186)

| Standard Supply | Repository-Live. A collection of over 1000 strains maintained as live colonies. Individual colonies are sized to meet current customer demand. Delivery for orders of 10 mice or less ranges on average from one to eight weeks; mice are generally shipped between four to six weeks of age with a maximum shipping age of ~nine weeks. Colony sizes do not generally support stringent age specifications for large volumes of mice; however custom orders and larger quantities of mice are easily arranged. Estimated ship dates for all orders provided within 48 hours of order placement. |
