Type Coisogenic; Mutant Strain; Spontaneous Mutation; Additional information on Genetically Engineered Mutant Mice. Species laboratory mouse Generation N12F1+N1p Development
The shiny and rough (Shar) dominant mutation arose spontaneously in the C57BL/6J-Lbric-J/J strain in 2000 when that strain was recovered from cryopreservation. It has been maintained by continuous backcross of heterozygote to C57BL/6J. In May of 2005 it reached N9. While this strain has not been tested for the recessive Lbric-J allele, it is likely that after 9 generations of backcrossing it has been bred out.
