Former Names C57BL/6J-rcw3J/J (Changed: 14-DEC-07 ) Type Coisogenic; Mutant Strain; Spontaneous Mutation; Additional information on Genetically Engineered Mutant Mice. Species laboratory mouse Description
Mice homozygous for the recoil wobbler 3 Jackson mutation have a slightly smaller body size and a wobbly gait, causing loss of balance when walking, usually visible by 2 weeks of age.Development
The recoil wobbler 3 Jackson mutation arose spontaneously in 2004 in C57BL/6J at The Jackson Laboratory when that inbred was at generation F224. It has been maintained by sibling mating and reached generation F224+4 in June 2005.

- behavior/neurological phenotype
- ataxia (MGI Ref ID J:98757)
- by 2 weeks of age, mutant mice exhibit a side-to-side wobble when walking; this movement often throws them off balance
- growth/size phenotype
- decreased body size (MGI Ref ID J:98757)
- mutant mice are slightly but noticeably smaller than unaffected littermates by 2 weeks of age
- nervous system phenotype
- *normal* nervous system phenotype (MGI Ref ID J:98757)
- a routine pathology screen of two 12 week old mutant mice identified no central nervous system (CNS) or other lesions

| Molecular Note | This mutation was shown to be an allele of rcw by a complementation test versus recoil wobbler 2 Jackson. A G1385A transition was identified which resulted in a G337E amino acid substitution. This is identical to the mutation in Grm1rcw-4J and both probably result from a single mutational event.
