Type Congenic; Mutant Strain; Transgenic; Additional information on Genetically Engineered and Mutant Mice. Visit our online Nomenclature tutorial. Additional information on Congenic nomenclature. Species laboratory mouse Generation ?+N1p Donating Investigator David Borchelt, McKnight Brain Inst, Univ of Florida Description
These transgenic mice express the human amyloid precursor protein (APP) under the control of the mouse prion protein promoter. Mice that are hemizygous for the transgene are viable and fertile. This mutant mouse strain may be useful in studies of Alzheimer's Disease.Development
A transgenic construct containing the human amyloid precursor protein (APP) under the control of the mouse prion protein promoter was injected into fertilized C57BL/6J mouse eggs. Founder line A-2 was established. The mice were then maintained by crossing hemizgyous male mice to C57BL/6J female mice.
