Type Congenic; Mutant Strain; Targeted Mutation; Additional information on Genetically Engineered Mutant Mice. Species laboratory mouse Generation N11F4pN1 Donating Investigator Eva Eicher, The Jackson Laboratory Description
Heterozygous female and homozygous male mice are viable, fertile, normal in size and do not display any gross physical or behavioral abnormalities. Female homozygous mice are infertile due to absence of primordial follicles in the ovary. No gene product (mRNA) is detected by RNase protection analysis of total ovarian RNA. This mutant mouse strain may be useful in studies of female infertility.Development
A targeting vector containing neomycin resistance and herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase genes was used to disrupt the transcription and translation start site sequence. The construct was electroporated into (129X1/SvJ x 129S1/Sv)F1-derived R1 embryonic stem (ES) cells. Correctly targeted ES cells were injected into C57BL/6N blastocysts. The resulting chimeric animals were crossed to CF-1 mice, and then backcrossed to B6Ei for at least 5 generations.

Breeding & Husbandry When maintaining a live colony, heterozygous females and homozygous males are bred. Homozygous females are infertile due to absence of primordial follicles in the ovary.
