Type JAX® GEMM® Strain - Mutant Stock Additional information on JAX® GEMM® Strains. Type JAX® GEMM® Strain - Targeted Mutation Mating System Heterozygote x Heterozygote (Female x Male) Species laboratory mouse Donating Investigator Peter Mombaerts, The Rockefeller University Generation N?+F1 (19-DEC-07) Strain Description
The coding region and part of the 3' non-translated region of the Omp gene was replaced by GFP. The targeted mutation results in a knockout. Mature olfactory sensory neurons express GFP at high levels. These neurons can be revealed by the intrinsic fluorescence of GFP, or by immunofluorescence with anti-GFP antibodies. Homozygous mice are subfertile.Strain Development
This mutation was generated in 129P2/OlaHsd derived E14 ES cells, the loxP flanked tk-neo cassette was excised by transient transfection of a plasmid expressing Cre recombinase, and the resulting mice were bred to C57BL/6 before intercrossing to homozygosity.

| Expressed Gene | GFP, Green Fluorescent Protein, jellyfish | ||
| Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP), derived from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria, is a versatile reporter molecule which has found use in many biological applications. The original molecule has been modified in order to enhance its fluorescence intensity (EGFP, enhanced GFP). When utilized in a transgenic construct, tissue expressing sufficient amounts of GFP will fluoresce when exposed to a 488 nm light source. | |||
| Gene Symbol and Name | Omp, olfactory marker protein | ||
| Chromosome | 7 | ||
| Molecular Note | The coding sequence was replaced with a GFP-LTNL sequence and the LTNL cassette was recombined out through the transfection of the targeted ES cells with cre recombinase. [MGI Ref ID J:73384] | ||

| Standard Supply | Repository-Live. A collection of over 1000 strains maintained as live colonies. Individual colonies are sized to meet current customer demand. Delivery for orders of 10 mice or less ranges on average from one to eight weeks; mice are generally shipped between four to six weeks of age with a maximum shipping age of ~nine weeks. Colony sizes do not generally support stringent age specifications for large volumes of mice; however custom orders and larger quantities of mice are easily arranged. Estimated ship dates for all orders provided within 48 hours of order placement. |
