Type Mutant Stock; Targeted Mutation; Additional information on Genetically Engineered and Mutant Mice. Visit our online Nomenclature tutorial. Species laboratory mouse Donating Investigator Peter Mombaerts, Max Planck Institute of Biophysics Description
The coding region and part of the 3' non-translated region of the Omp gene was replaced by Cre. The targeted mutation results in a knockout. Mature olfactory sensory neurons express the Cre recombinase at high levels. Homozygous mice are subfertile. As an example, when crossed to a strain with widespread expression of GFP and a loxP-flanked Bgeo reporter (see Stock No. 004178), this mutant mouse strain may be useful in lineage tracing.
Development
The 129P2/OlaHsd derived E14 ES cell was used to generate this targeted mutation and the resulting mice were crossed to C57BL/6, and then intercrossed to homozygosity. The FRT-flanked neo cassette (FNF) is retained within this strain, and can be removed by flp-mediated recombination. The plasmid that was used to generate this mutation is banked and described at Addgene.

| Cre recombinase is an enzyme derived from the bacteriophage P1 that specifically recognizes loxP sites. Cre has been shown to effectively mediate the excision of DNA located between loxP sites. After the excision event, the DNA ends recombine leaving a single loxP site in place of the intervening sequence. | |||

Supply Notes
- Cryorecovery - Standard.
We will fulfill your order by providing at least two pair of mice, at least one animal of each pair carrying the mutation of interest. The total number of animals provided, their gender and genotype will vary. Please inquire if larger numbers of animals with specific genotype and genders are needed. Animals typically ship between 13 and 16 weeks from the date of your order. If a second cryorecovery is needed in order to provide the minimum number of animals, animals will ship within 25 weeks. IMPORTANT NOTE: The genotypes of animals provided may not reflect the mating scheme utilized by The Jackson Laboratory prior to cryopreservation, or that discussed in the strain description. Please inquire about possible genotypes which will be recovered for this specific strain. The Jackson Laboratory cannot guarantee the reproductive success of mice shipped to your facility. If the mice are lost after the first three days (post-arrival) or do not produce progeny at your facility, a new order and fee will be necessary.Cryorecovery to establish a Dedicated Supply for greater quantities of mice.
Mice recovered can be used to establish a dedicated colony to contractually supply you mice according to your requirements. Price by quotation. For more information on Dedicated Supply, please contact JAX® Services, Tel: 1-800-422-6423 (from U.S.A., Canada or Puerto Rico only) or 1-207-288-5845 (from any location).
