Type Mutant Stock; Targeted Mutation; Additional information on Genetically Engineered and Mutant Mice. Visit our online Nomenclature tutorial. Species laboratory mouse Donating Investigator Peter Mombaerts, Max Planck Institute of Biophysics Description
Olfactory sensory neurons that express the olfactory receptor Olfr151 also co-express the Cre recombinase by virtue of IRES-mediated co-translation.Development
Homologous recombination to generate this allele was done in 129P2/OlaHsd derived E14 ES cells. The FRT-flanked neo cassette was removed from the resulting mutant mice by crossing the line to mice carrying Tg(ACTB-FLP). This transgene was then bred out of the line and through intercrossing it was made homozygous for Olfr151tm28Mom.

| Cre recombinase is an enzyme derived from the bacteriophage P1 that specifically recognizes loxP sites. Cre has been shown to effectively mediate the excision of DNA located between loxP sites. After the excision event, the DNA ends recombine leaving a single loxP site in place of the intervening sequence. | |||

| Molecular Note | An IRES-cre-FNF cassette was inserted downstream of the coding sequence of Olfr151 to permit bicistronic expression of Olfr151 and cre recombinase. The neo cassette was excised by crossing to mice bearing Tg(ACTB-FLP). [MGI Ref ID J:115857] | ||
