Strain Description
Mice hemizygous for this CD11c-Cre-GFP transgene are viable and fertile. The CD11c (Itgax) promoter directs bicistronic Cre and EGFP protein expression to dendritic cells (DCs). Expression of EGFP is expected to have equimolar expression with Cre recombinase. When bred with any mouse containing a loxP-flanked sequence of interest, the resulting offspring can have Cre-mediated recombination of the flanked sequence. These CD11c-Cre-GFP transgenic mice (as well as CD11c-Cre transgenic mice (see Stock No. 008068)) may be useful for immunological studies utilizing Cre-lox technology or fluorescent protein expression in dendritic cells.
Strain Development
The CD11c-Cre-GFP transgene was designed placing a Cre recombinase gene, internal ribosomal entry site (IRES), and an enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) gene all downstream of the 5.3 kb dendritic cell (DC)-specific mouse integrin alpha X (Itgax/Cd11c) promoter/enhancer. This transgene was microinjected into C57BL/6J fertilized mouse embryos, which were then implanted into pseudopregnant foster mice. Transgenic mice were bred to C57BL/6J, and the resulting transgenic offspring (founder line 4097) were maintained by breeding with C57BL/6J mice for many generations prior to arrival at The Jackson Laboratory. The donating investigator reports that this transgene inserted on chromosome 13.

The Jackson Laboratory has rigorous genetic quality control and mutant gene
genotyping programs to ensure the genetic background of JAX
® Mice strains as
well as the genotypes of strains with identified molecular mutations.
JAX
® Mice strains are only made available to researchers after meeting our
standards. However, the phenotype of each strain may not be fully
characterized and/or captured in the strain data sheets.
Therefore, we
cannot guarantee a strain's phenotype will meet all expectations. To
ensure that JAX
® Mice will meet the needs of individual research projects
or when requesting a strain that is new to your research, we suggest ordering
and performing tests on a small number of mice to determine suitability for
your particular project.
