| Stock No.'s 008053, 008054, 008055, 008056, 008057, 008058, 008059 and 008060, are viable, fertile and diabetes resistant. These NOD congenic strains are the result of crossing segments of C57L/J derived Chromosome 11 into the NOD background. There appear to be multiple diabetes resistant regions (Idd4 ) on Chromosome 11, therefore, this strain is useful to identify candidate genes associated with diabetes resistance and to positionally clone the Idd4 resistant loci. | |||||||||||||

Related Genotype: A/A Tyrc/TyrcDescription
This NOD congenic strain, commonly referred to as NOD.Lc11a or DR3a, carries a C57L/J derived congenic interval on Chromosome 11, D11Mit51 (51Mb) through D11Mit339 (63Mb) that includes the Idd4.3 region, containing candidate gene Csf2, and the Idd4.5 region. Stat5a, Stat5b, Stat3. Candidate genes in the Idd4.4 region along with Idd4.1, 4.2 regions are of NOD origin. Diabetes incidence in females is reported to be about 39% compared to 70% in NOD control mice. (Davoodi-Semiromi et al, 2007).This strain is useful to further study the role of Csf2 and to identify other Idd4 candidate genes and their role in autoimmune diabetes.
Development
This NOD congenic stock contains a genomic segment from C57L/J introgressed into Chr. 11. Seven additional stocks (Stock No's 008054, 008055, 008056, 008057, 008058, 008059, and 008060) were developed from Stock No. 008053 through backcrossing to NOD once and selective breeding. This model, Stock No. 008054, contains a small C57L/J congenic interval D11Mit314 (51Mb) through D11Mit339 (63Mb) containing the C57L/J derived Csf2 allele (Idd4.3 region) while retaining the NOD derived Stat5a/Stat5b/Stat3 alleles. In 2008, the Type 1 Diabetes Resource received this stock at N6F16.

Please note: Estimated available for sale dates are provided to keep customers better informed on strains under development. Please note that our Colony Managers routinely monitor the target date and edit it based on breeding performance and other factors. The length of time it takes to make a new strain available for sale depends on genotype, age, number of animals sent by the Donating Investigator, breeding performance, additional strain development (backcrossing, making homozygous), and anticipated demand for the strain/interest registered.
