| These mice express a tau (MAPT)-sapphire green fluorescent protein (GFP) under the transcriptional control of the mouse neuropeptide Y (Npy) promoter. Fluorescence is observed in distinct neuronal populations of the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus. This strain has been useful in studying the role of neuropeptide Y and leptin in food intake. Hemizygotes are viable and fertile and do not display any gross physical or behavioral abnormalities. | |||||||||||||||

Mating System Noncarrier x Hemizygote (Female x Male) 25-SEP-08 Species laboratory mouse Generation N11+N1F1 (18-DEC-08) Donating Investigator Jeffrey Friedman, Rockefeller University, HHMI Description
These mice express a tau (MAPT)-sapphire green fluorescent protein (GFP) under the transcriptional control of the mouse neuropeptide Y (Npy) promoter. Immunohistochemistry for NPY in colchicine-treated animals demonstrated ~95% colocalization of NPY with the GFP-expressing neurons in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus. This strain has been useful in studying the role of neuropeptide Y and leptin in food intake. Hemizygotes are viable and fertile and do not display any gross physical or behavioral abnormalities.Development
A transgenic BAC vector carrying Tau (MAPT)-Sapphire GFP in exon 2 of a mouse neuropeptide Y (Npy) gene was introduced to B6CBAF1 embryos. The line was backcrossed ten times to C57BL/6 by the donating laboratory.

| Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP), derived from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria, is a versatile reporter molecule which has found use in many biological applications. In some constructs the original molecule has been modified in order to enhance its fluorescence intensity (EGFP, enhanced GFP). When utilized in a transgenic construct, tissue expressing sufficient amounts of GFP will fluoresce when exposed to a 488 nm light source. | |||

| Standard Supply | Repository-Live. A collection of over 1000 strains maintained as live colonies. Individual colonies are sized to meet current customer demand. Delivery for orders of 10 mice or less ranges on average from one to eight weeks; mice are generally shipped between four to six weeks of age with a maximum shipping age of approximately nine weeks. Colony sizes do not generally support stringent age specifications for large volumes of mice; however custom orders and larger quantities of mice are easily arranged. Estimated ship dates for all orders provided within two business days following order placement. |
