Type Coisogenic; Mutant Strain; Transgenic; Additional information on Genetically Engineered and Mutant Mice. Visit our online Nomenclature tutorial. Species laboratory mouse Donating Investigator Jeffery D. Molkentin, Children's Hospital Medical Center Description
The mouse Myh6 (myosin, heavy polypeptide 6, cardiac muscle, alpha) promoter drives expression of Ser217/221Glu mutant mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 1 (Map2k1). These mice develop a mild concentric cardiac ventricular hypertrophy. No premature lethality or cardiac dilation is observed in hemizygotes.Development
The mouse cardiac alpha myosin heavy chain (Myh6) promoter drives expression of an activated Ser217Glu/Ser221Glu form of mouse MEK1 (Map2k1). The strain was created and maintained on an FVB background by the donating laboratory. This is the "high-expressing" line; copy number was not determined.

| Molecular Note | A Map2k1 gene that encodes a constitutively active protein by substituting glutamines for serines 217 and 221 was put under the control of the cardiac specific Myh6 promoter. Nine independent lines were created with transgene copy number ranging from 2 to over 40. Transgene expression was detected in heart muscle at levels 3.9 to 6.3 fold higher than expression of endogenous Map2k1. This is a representative record for all lines. [MGI Ref ID J:66102] | ||
